The Iowa Utilities Board meets today to decide whether to split the 3-1-9 area code in two, OR “overlay” a new code in the area so new numbers would get a new code. Utilities Board spokesman Rob Hillesland says residents in the 3-1-9 area code that attended public hearings or submitted comments in writing support splitting the 3-1-9 area code in two. Federal officials say the 3-1-9 area code will run out of numbers this time next year. The Iowa Utilities Board meets at two o’clock this afternoon in Des Moines to decide the issue.
