Iowa born writing instrument featured in new exhibit

Organizers of a new exhibit at the State Historical Museum have picked a pen to be part of the display. On Saturday, a new exhibit called “A Few of Our Favorite Things” opens at the State Historical Building, and it includes everything from Jell-O to Barbie dolls. Curator Jack Lufkin says he picked things that were important developments in the past century, and he put the “self-filling fountain pen” on his list.Lufkin says Walter Schaffer, a jeweler in Fort Madison, is credited with the invention.
