Iowa’s Attorney General wants to expand the state’s domestic abuse law to cover more kinds of relationships. Under current law, married or divorced couples are covered, as are couples who have a child together or who have lived together a year. Attorney General Tom Miller says it’s time to expand the domestic abuse law to include dating relationships.Miller unveiled his legislative proposals this morning, and much of the focus was on Iowa’s abuse laws. Miller suggests it’s time to form special, regional teams of prosecutors and investigators for child abuse cases.Miller wants to boost punishment for those who violate a “no-contact” order.
