Some state legislators want another shot at a law that would allow dove hunting in Iowa. The bill has faltered in the past two years, but it cleared an initial statehouse hurdle today. Garman can’t imagine it’s much sport to hunt mourning doves. The dove-hunting bill cleared the House Natural Resources Committee on a 14 to seven vote this morning. In past years, lawmakers were inundated with letters and e-mail from Iowans who were opposed to the dove-hunting season. One notable exception was a phone call House Speaker Brent Siegrist received last year from hard-rocker Ted Nugent, an avid hunter who offered Siegrist some recipes for dove.
