Six more Iowa counties now have direct access to weather radio. The National Weather Service has activated a new transmitting station in St. Ansgar which covers Cerro Gordo, Worth, Floyd, Mitchell, Howard and Chickasaw counties in north-central and northeastern Iowa. Jeff Johnson is the Warnings Coordinator for the N-W-S’s office in metro Des Moines.Johnson says weather radios provide a fast direct warning system during severe storms.Johnson says weather radio is a good source to couple with commercial radio stations for weather information.In the last 14 months, the Weather Service has also added transmitters in Ft. Dodge, Burlington, and in Davis and Appanoose counties. Residents in 32 Iowa counties still don’t have direct access to the broadcasts.
