Clarinda family killed in accident

January 15, 2001 By admin

Three members of a family who recently moved to Clarinda died this weekend in a car crash in slippery conditions. Forty-six-year-old Gerry Owen, his 31-year-old wife Holly and their four-month-old son, Daniel, died in the crash which happened on a county road along the Montgomery/Page county line. A sheriff’s deputy who was called to the scene says conditions were so treacherous, he couldn’t go above 35 miles per hour on his way to the accident, or HIS car would hydroplane. Witnesses said the car Owen was driving slid sideways in front of a pick-up truck driven by 21-year-old Laura Johnson of Villisca. She was treated at a hospital, then released but her 54-year-old dad, Stanley, remains in a Council Bluffs hospital in stable condition.
