A recent study gave Iowa an “unsatisfactory” grade in the over-all health of Iowa women, but Charlotte Nelson of the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women says that’s a little misleading. She says none of the 50 states got a “satisfactory” grade. Hawaii was ranked as the best state for women’s health. Iowa was ranked 18th. Nelson says the study was conducted by the National Women’s Law Center, the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine and a health policy consulting firm. It focused on the well being of women and stressed access to preventative medical care, such as mammograms, nutrition counseling, and exercise classes.
