An Iowan leaves today to join in a protest on a controversial Puerto Rican island. Brian Terrell of Maloy says his goal is to help residents of Vieques, Puerto Rico stop the U-S Navy from using part of the island as a bombing range. He says there’s almost complete agreement among the Puerto Ricans that they don’t want the nave there anymore.Terrell, who’s the Director of the Catholic Peace Ministry in Des Moines, is making the trip as part of a 27-member Christian Peacemaker Team. He says they’ll be camping near the gates of the military area and will join in demonstrations and acts of “civil disobedience.”Terrell says the trip could be dangerous, but he’s willing to go anyway.
