An eastern Iowa man’s been sentenced in a controversial drunken driving case. 21-year-old Nathaniel Forsyth had been given a deferred sentence for a drunk driving charge last summer. The judge handed down the sentence before learning Forsyth had a blood alcohol level of point-one-six-seven. State law does not allow deferments when a person’s blood alcohol level is over point-one-five. The judge later rescinded the deferred judgement. Forsyth pled guilty to the charge yesterday and was sentenced by a new judge to two days in jail and a 500-dollar fine. Forsyth’s father is a Benton County Sheriff’s deputy and his mom is a clerk of court. State officials are investigating to see if that had any influence in the case.
