Winter weather continues assault on Iowa

February 8, 2001 By admin

Foul weather will round out our week in Iowa. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory today for northwestern Iowa, a Freezing Rain Advisory for central Iowa and a Winter Storm Watch for tonight and tomorrow. Weather Service meteorologist Frank Boksa, at the Johnston office, says this storm will start out slow and build in momentum. He says there won’t be much to worry about this morning, just some fog and scattered freezing drizzle with a few flurries. This afternoon, more rain will fall in the southeast, with rain changing to freezing rain in the central area and sleet in the northwest. The rain and freezing rain will change to snow by tonight, possibly bringing some areas of the state between five and ten inches of new snow through tomorrow.
