February 9, 2001 By admin

Over 100 guests at a downtown Des Moines hotel were forced out of their rooms for two hours last night when a fire broke out in a maintenance closet. Savery Hotel general manager Randy Haynes says the fire started at one a-m.Haynes says there’s very little damage in an area of the hotel were there were no guests. He says a sprinkler system did put the fire out. Guests were taken across the street until firefighters determined it was safe for them to return to their rooms. The hotel underwent a nine million dollar renovation in 1999.
