West Marshal loses leading scorer to illness

February 22, 2001 By admin

The West Marshall Girls Basketball team has been dealt a serious setback in their attempt to make a fourth-straight tournament appearance. When West Marshall faces 14th-ranked Ballard Saturday, leading scorer Jill Eggers won’t be playing. The 6-foot-2-inch senior forward has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease, a form of cancer. Eggers was averaging 16 points per contest. Last Wednesday, doctors found a tumor near her heart. Eggers’ team is unbeaten in 23 outings, and faces once-beaten Ballard in Saturday’s game, which is a regional final.
