February 27, 2001 By admin

A popular Canadian author of children’s books is visiting Iowa in a trip sponsored by the Iowa Reading Association. Marguerite Ruurs visited an elementary school in Webster City Monday. She’s published 14 books already and has four more coming out this year. Ruurs has been pleased with the success of her books. She was surprised to hear some children thought playing video games was more fun than reading. She tells kids reading is more important because they get to use their brains instead of their thumbs. Ruurs credits the success of a fellow author who has helped revive interest in reading.Ruurs also visited a school in Calmar Monday and will visit Cedar Rapids this weekend.
