Horses and burros available for adoption

Iowans will have the chance to adopt any of about one hundred wild horses and burros later this week at the National Cattle Congress grounds in Waterloo. Jim Boylan, a spokesman for the U-S Bureau of Land Management, says the animals have many uses, from riding to just pets.Boylan, who works out of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin office, says trucks will be bringing between 60 and 80 wild horses and 20 to 30 burros to northeast Iowa for public viewing on Friday and auction on Saturday. Boylan says the animals all came from the “Great American West” of Nevada, California and New Mexico.Boylan says the horses and burros are all hardy and intelligent and can be trained and broken to be “companions animals.” He says every effort is made to offer them up for auction when they’re young.The minimum bid is 125-dollars at the Saturday auction.
