Bettendorf police say alcohol was involved in fatal crash

March 27, 2001 By admin

Bettendorf police are trying to find out who supplied alcohol to several minors involved in a fatal car accident. Police say the five kids all had been drinking before their S-U-V slammed into a utility pole Saturday night. 11-year old Jessica Ballheimer of East Moline, Illinois, was killed in the accident. Bettendorf police officer Warren Beine says they’re waiting for blood tests on the five before filing any charges. Beine says it was a senseless tragedy that could’ve been avoided if the kids had stayed away from alcohol and worn their seatbelts. Beine says beer cans were found in the vehicle.
