Bowl talk back in Iowa’s spring football discussion

March 28, 2001 By admin

A strong finish last season and a solid nucleus to build around has the Iowa football team thinking about a possible bowl game next fall. Iowa finished 3-9 last fall but posted late season upsets over Penn State and Northwestern. Hawkeye coach Kirk Ferentz says just how much improvement his team shows will depend on a number of variables, such as how other teams in the conference shape up.The most notable position change involves Tim Dodge who moves back to receiver after a season at cornerback. At quarterback, veterans Kyle McCann and Jon Buetjer are joined by junior college transfer Brad Banks in the battle for the starting job. He says Banks will be starting from scratch and will have to learn a lot this spring to be able to compete next fall.Iowa’s spring game is April 14th.
