Search for missing Des Moines man ends unsuccessfully

April 2, 2001 By admin

After nearly a month, the investigation into the disappearance of an Iowa native in Mexico has ended — with no success. 62-year-old Alan Blank was reported missing after a business meeting near his ranch in Mexico on March 8th. Eileen Wixted, a spokeswoman for the Blank family, says the search involved private investigators, local authorities, the F-B-I, the U-S Consulate and many volunteer hours from Blank’s friends and neighbors. She says they now want to have a private memorial service to honor Blank. Wixted says the man who Blank met with the day he was last seen has also died and may have had a physical confrontation with Blank. It’s believed Jimmy Presley, a California restaurateur, intentionally drove his van into a head-on collision with a bus the day after Blank disappeared. The Blank family is well known for its philanthropy in Des Moines where a hospital and a zoo bear their name.
