Car still the main mode of travel for summer trips

April 7, 2001 By admin

Planes, trains or automobiles? Daron Van Helden, a spokesman for Triple-A Iowa, says it’s cheaper to take the auto for summer travel. Van Helden says in the United States, the car is the most often-used mode of transportation. Van Helden says there’s been a three-percent increase in car travel since 1999 — but air travel has increased five percent. Van Helden says there is an increasing likelihood to fly because plane tickets are cheaper these days. Despite popular belief, Van Helden says flying is still safer than driving. Van Helden expects cars to remain the most popular choice for summer travel for years to come.
