Veishea underway in Ames

Iowa State University’s annual Veishea celebration is underway in Ames. It’s billed as the largest student-run event in the country, and features open houses, plays, food, games and a parade. It began as a way to showcase ISU, and despite some troubles in the past with violence, it continues that mission today. Brian Nash is one of the Veishea student co-chairs. This year’s theme is “Creating Cyclone Unity.”. Nash says you don’t have to be a Cyclone graduate or student to participate. Nash and other students have been working since the end of last year’s celebration to prepare for Veishea 2001. He says over 350 people have been working with Veishea. The parade Saturday morning is one of the more popular events. The parade is starting an hour earlier this year, at 10:40 in the morning. Events continue throughout the weekend on the Ames campus.
