The home-style cooking of a small-town cafe in eastern Iowa has won national acclaim. The salad bar at the White Way Restaurant in Durant has been named one of ten “great places to fill up your plate” by U-S-A Today. White Way owner Bonnie Marshall says she follows tried-and-true recipes. While the restaurant’s most popular meal is usually the Iowa pork chops, Marshall says some people do stop in just for the salad bar. She says the 20-to-30 items on the salad bar aren’t anything unusual, they’re just tastier than some other places because they’re all made fresh.Marshall has been in the restaurant business 34 years. She says some people do pile their plates ridiculously high at her salad bar. Durant is about two miles south of Interstate 80 between Iowa City and Davenport.
