One estimate predicts it’ll cost each candidate for U-S Senate from Iowa as much as eight million dollars to run his campaign for the 2002 election. That race is expected to pit democrat incumbent Tom Harkin against republican challenger Greg Ganske of Des Moines, currently a Congressman. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, who is not up for re-election next year, was asked if the big numbers concern him.Grassley says no, because in his last campaign, he spent two-point-three million dollars over two years, roughly the same amount of a 30-second commercial during the Superbowl. Grassley says political free speech is what the First Amendment is all about.Grassley says elections should be about winning, but not winning at all costs.
