As temperatures rise, tempers sometimes get hotter too. A national study finds 71-percent of federal workers say they experience rude behavior on the job. Adam Butler, assistant professor of organizational psychology at the University of Northern Iowa, says most people aren’t rude and -do- want to get along. He says a bad work environment can bring on meanness.Butler says Iowa employers can do several things to make workplaces better places for people to work.,keep people informed of workplace developments. Give employees a sense of control over their own work. Let them have a voice in decisions. Monitor work demands which is a major cause of workplace stress. Butler says employees can also take action to help improve the situation. He says people who try to be courteous to others are encouraging others to be courteous to them.
