Defending champs lead first Radio Iowa football poll

A trio of defending champions are top ranked in the Radio Iowa pre-season high school football poll. After claiming the school’s first championship a year ago, West Des Moines Dowling is top ranked in the class 4A pre-season poll. Iowa City high is second. Bettendorf, Davenport Assumption and West Des Moines Valley complete the top five. Harlan finished as the runner-up in 3A last season but the cyclones open this season top ranked. Fairfield is second, Grinnell is third then its defending champ Clear Lake and Creston. Defending champion Emmetsburg is top ranked in 2A, Sigourney-Keota is second then its Dike-New Hartford, Central Lyon and Mount Vernon. In 1A, Aplington-Parkersburg is top ranked while defending champ Southern Cal is second. West Lyon, Madrid and Council Bluffs St. Albert complete the top five. Defending champ Hubbard-Radclifee was a near unanimous choice as the top ranked team in class A. Manning is second. Completing the top five it’s West Bend Mallard, IKM Manilla and Northwood-Kensett. and Elk Horn Kimballton leads the eight-man survey. Defending champ Adair-Casey is second then its Aurelia, Sentral of Fenton and Moravia.
