Budget troubles put road projects on a detour

September 19, 2001 By admin

The Iowa Department of Transportation is putting some future projects on hold to make up for a 300-million dollar budget shortfall. D-O-T spokesperson Dena Gray-Fisher says they’re all projects that are in the long-term plan, five to 25 years away, and are not currently set for construction. Gray-Fisher says they’re putting 38 of 59 projects on hold and are going from four billion dollars in investment back to two billion dollars. Gray-Fisher says a variety of factors have cut the funds available for road construction.Gray-Fisher says the state will continue to give projects along the major interstate corridors priority when it comes to construction.
