UNI cracks rankings after big win

October 2, 2001 By admin

Northern Iowa has moved back into the Sports Networks One-double-A top 25. The Panthers are 18th after opening Gateway Conference action with a 30-11 victory over then second ranked Youngstown State. U-N-I coach Mark Farley says it was a good day to be a Panther, but they have to get their feet back on the ground to face rival Southwest Missouri State. Farley says the emotion will be high between these rivals, and they have to make sure they can go on the road and play well.Farley says Saturday’s victory was only the first step, as beating Youngstown does not give them the Gateway title. Southwest Missouri State played Kansas earlier this season and Farley was asked if he would get any help from Jayhawk coach Terry Allen in preparation. He says he’ll use every resource available.
