Clinton college cleared in rape case

October 12, 2001 By admin

A federal judge has ruled Mount Saint Clare College in Clinton is -not- responsible for an alleged dormitory rape in 1998.
The St. Louis woman filed suit in September 2000, claiming the college was negligent, indifferent and showed reckless disregard for the safety of its students for allowing the incident to happen. The alleged assailant was a non-student. The Clinton police department, which investigated the case, filed -no- charges in the incident at Durham Hall. The woman’s father had filed a complaint against the college with the U-S Department of Education over a lack of adequate reporting of crimes on the campus. Mt. St. Clare officials say they misinterpreted the campus security act rules and negotiated a 15-thousand dollar fine to end the matter.
