Governor orders special masks for postal workers

October 25, 2001 By admin

Governor Tom Vilsack says the state will become one of the first in the nation to add protection for some workers. Even though he says state government hasn’t gotten any threatening or suspicious packages in the mail, the governor’s ordered special masks. These are n-100 particulate respirators, designed to screen out microbes like airborne anthrax. The germs may not even be able to get out of packages, but on the chance they could, workers will get masks as soon as the order’s filled and it arrives. Meanwhile, the Post Office says if you get something fishy in the mail, don’t shake, bump, sniff or open it, put the mail in a plastic bag and leave it. Call law-enforcement authorities to come take a look, and: wash your hands.
