This is Severe Weather Awareness Week

October 29, 2001 By admin

It’s winter weather awareness week in Iowa. National Weather Service Meteorologist Todd Heitkamp says you should keep listening to the radio when a winter weather warning is issued. Heitkamp says you should also keep a winter survival kit in your car.He says keep it inside the car so you don’t have to go outside in the weather if it’s needed. The National Weather Service has changed the way it calculates the wind-chill, something Heitkamp says will help forecasters better predict how cold it is outside.Heitkamp says those looking for a milder winter in Iowa this year should probably head south. He predicts there’ll be below normal temperatures this winter and normal precipitation. The Weather Service will highlight various aspects of winter weather awareness throughout this week.
