Iowans are warned to watch out for Grinches on the other end of the phone line in this season of giving. Many people claiming to represent legitimate charities are calling for donations. Bob Brammer, spokesman for the Iowa Attorney General, says wise donors will use caution before forking over any money.Brammer says these organizations appeal to the public for donations on a year-round basis and turn it up a little during the holiday season. He says law enforcement and firefighter charities might get more attention in the wake of September 11th. Brammer says you should be sure the charity you donate to is legitimate.Brammer says Iowans with suspicions should call the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s office in Des Moines, or their local law enforcement agency.
