Giant Blaze in Tire Pile

December 24, 2001 By admin

A huge pile of discarded tires is on fire in central Iowa. The fire broke out at the Bee Rite Tire recycling facility near Rhodes Monday morning. While there are over a million tires on the site, state officials say the fire’s been contained to a bunker of about a thousand tires, and it’ll be allowed to burn itself out. Black smoke is billowing toward Marshalltown and can be seen 20 miles away.
