A one-of-a-kind dragster is making its first and last appearance in central Iowa this weekend. The twin-engine nitro-burning Hearst Harry Olds crashed back in the 1960s and was only recently rebuilt by a dedicated group of Iowa car lovers.Dennis Mothershed, president of the Oldsmobile Club of Iowa, says the car was once the fastest car on the planet and could burn rubber for a full quarter-mile, topping out at 180-miles an hour. Mothershed and a team of Des Moines-area car enthusiasts spent years rebuilding and restoring the vehicle after a bad wreck. The car will be taken later this year to be inducted and become a permanent display at the National Hot Rod Association Museum in Pomona, California. Mothershed says the Olds cannot be started as it would shatter every window in the neighborhood. The car is on display through tomorrow at the World of Wheels Show in Des Moines at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
