A small school’s campaign to “put God back into the pledge of allegiance” is less than meets the eye. Dubuque Pastor Larry Stark explains one student was filling a pop machine at the church’s gathering hall a couple weeks ago.She noticed a picture of the Statue of Liberty and the words ‘one nation indivisible,’ and concluded they’d “left God out of the pledge.” Kids at the Christian school say the pledge, and he says finding the phrase led them to conclude God was left out of the pledge. But the new patriotic-themed cans of Dr Pepper don’t contain the pledge of allegiance, only three words…”one nation, indivisible.” The home-schoolers figure Dr Pepper’s afraid to “have god on their can” and want to tell them to keep it. Pastor Stark says the 28 Dubuque home-school kids started a letter-writing campaign, but have been told by the corporation that makes the soft drink that it won’t change the patriotic can design.
