GOP Congressman Latham raps Dems’ Senate farm bill

February 14, 2002 By admin

Iowa Congressman Tom Latham, a republican, wasn’t pleased with what the democrat-controlled Senate decided to endorse for farmers in the farm bill passed this week. He says the senate bill has a lot of additional spending, and spends too much in the first five years. In addition to spending too much money too soon, Latham says the Senate version of the bill isn’t environment-friendly. Democrat Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, who chairs the ag committee, says the Farm Bill that passed the Senate yesterday offers more income protection and conservation support than any previous Farm Bill.
