Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he got a pleasant surprise over the weekend. The embattled Enron decided to heed Grassley’s request to turn over all of its income tax documents dating back to 1985.Grassley says he wants to have the documents fully scoured to gauge Enron’s use of tax shelters which may have helped cover up the company’s true financial condition.Grassley says he hopes those changes in tax law will prevent future abuses by other companies like Enron, which he says formed as many as one hundred off-shore accounts to shelter its money and to avoid paying taxes.
