The so-called “boyfriend bill” is now law. One-third of all domestic assaults are committed by those involved in a serious dating relationship. A new state law signed this morning by Governor Vilsack now extends new legal protections to that group of victims, protections already in force for those who’re married, living together or have a child together. Most importantly, the new law makes it easier and quicker to get a “no contact” order against a dating partner.
