Two seperate accidents yesterday on Interstate 80 in eastern Iowa’s Scott County injured an Olympic athlete and killed several cattle. Critically injured was 33-year-old Chia-Chan Lee, a Taiwanese bobsledder who was returning home to Lake Forest, Illinois, from Salt Lake City. The eastbound pickup truck in which Lee was a passenger went out of control, slid across the median and hit a semi near Stockton. The highway was slippery due to blowing snow. Earlier, no one was hurt but nine head of had cattle died in a two-vehicle accident on I-80 in Bettendorf. At 2:15 A-M, an eastbound car collided with a semi carrying 39 head of cattle and the semi flipped onto its side. That portion of the interstate was closed nearly 11 hours as authorities cut holes in the trailer to remove the cattle.
