Atlantic ready for return to tourney

March 13, 2002 By admin

Atlantic’s playing Saydel today afternoon in the 3-A boys’ basketball tournament. Atlantic’s the number-six seed in the tournament, Saydel at 20-4 is the number-three seed. Atlantic head Coach Steve Blazek says coming off wins over Winterset and Harlan in substate play, his team’s fairly confident. Coach Blazek says size could be a factor in the game, since Saydel’s six-foot-ten-inch center Jake Ballard is the tallest player Atlantic’s seen this season. Blazek says Atlantic will have to handle Saydel’s taller post players. The last time Atlantic’s boys basketball team played in the state tournament was 1977, and current Atlantic assistant coach Roger Warne was a player on that team.
