New West Des Moines Mall to feature upscale stores

March 25, 2002 By admin

A soon-to-be-constructed Iowa shopping mall will have some high-end retailers. The Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines will have stores like Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Ann Taylor and Abercrombie-and-Finch’s new “Hollister” which sells teen fashions. Julie Jacoby is director of corporate communications for the company that’s building the mall.Jacoby says the stores are in no other Iowa city. The capitol city’s other malls filed a lawsuit trying to block construction of the new mall, but failed. General Growth Properties, the new mall’s developers, go before West Des Moines city officials on Tuesday to discuss the site plan. It could be the final regulatory hurdle for the project.Jacoby says they hope to break ground of the project this summer. Williams-Sonoma sells top-drawer kitchen gadgets, serviceware and linens. The Pottery Barn is the nation’s leading home furnishings retailer. Ann Taylor sells women’s apparel. Abercrombie-and-Finch sells adult clothes, and will be in the mall, too. The 200-MILLION dollar mall in West Des Moines is planned by General Growth Properties, which owns 160 shopping malls in 41 states, including the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville and the Mall of the Bluffs in Council Bluffs.
