Fire kills Ottumwa woman

April 4, 2002 By admin

A predawn house fire in Ottumwa this morning injured one person and killed another. A woman died in the fire on the city’s east side, and her 50-year-old son is hospitalized in Iowa City. Firefighters arrived to find the house engulfed in flames, and Fire Chief Steven O’Conner says Gary Terril was found outside the house. A fireman went in through a window and rescued Terril’s mother, 69-year-old Dorothy Fox. Both were taken to Ottumwa Regional Health Center, where Fox died from her injuries. Chief O’Conner says Terrill was transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City in serious condition.
