Huge flag flies over Bettendorf

April 5, 2002 By admin

Post-nine-eleven patriotism is flying high in eastern Iowa. There’s a huge American flag flying over Bettendorf – way over Bettendorf. The illuminated 30-by-50-foot flag is atop a new 150-foot flagpole at the Isle of Capri Casino and Hotel. Hotel officials say the steel flagpole is the tallest one in Iowa. City officials, members of the Armed Forces, veterans, firefighters and police officers gathered in chilly temperatures to watch the unveiling yesterday. The Isle of Capri is on the riverfront near the I-74 bridge. The flag itself weighs 90 pounds.
