Missed turn keeps airplane mired in the muck

April 30, 2002 By admin

An airplane mishap at Des Moines International Airport was less than met the eye this morning. Airport spokesman Michael Audino says it happened about 7-30 in the morning. A Boeing 727 cargo plane inbound from Milwaukee landed safely but didn’t make a turn on the taxiway and wound up with a couple wheels in the mud. The main runway closed for a while as crews dragged the plane out of the mud, but airport operations continued.Nobody was injured, and the airport remained open though the runway closed for a while. If it hadn’t been a cargo plane, the 727 could have carried about 100 passengers.
