Northeast Iowa voters Tuesday rejected a 26-million dollar bond referendum for improvements to Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. The vote was 55-percent “yes” to 45-percent “no” and needed 60-percent to pass. Hawkeye President Bettsey Barhorst is disappointed. Barhorst says they’ll likely try another referendum in six months. The money would’ve gone toward renovating and building new campus facilities and upgrading some of the school’s satellite centers.
