Young Sioux City boys face possible charges in pipe bomb scare

May 10, 2002 By admin

Authorities are still considering charges against three second-grade boys who created a scare with a pipe bomb prank. Sioux City police lieutenant Terry Kern says the eight-year-old boys say they found the device, played with it, and then put it in a mailbox. The device was made to look like a pipe bomb, but he says it seemed to be more sophisticated than something an eight-year-old could build. Kern says it was a fake that was not explosive. Kern says the boys won’t face charges involving the device, but he says the boys could still face trespassing charges for placing the bomb in the mailbox. Sioux City police used explosives to disable the device once it was pulled out of the mailbox. Police aren’t sure who made the device.
