Republican candidate says he’d review and cut the waste if elected Governor

May 16, 2002 By admin

Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Sukup sys, if elected, he’ll establish a commission to review state government and recommend programs for elimination. Sukup says there are tough decisions ahead under the current budget situation. Sukup, an industrial engineer who runs a family firm that makes Ag equipment, often says he wants to make government run like a business.Sukup says he had to downsize the Sukup Manufacturing workforce during the Farm Crisis, and state government could benefit from the same kind of top-to-bottom review. Republican legislators have made a similar recommendation for a commission that would make recommendations which could only be accepted or rejected in whole, so lawmakers couldn’t pick and choose which programs would be the chopping block.
