Questions surround death of Spirit Lake girl

May 20, 2002 By admin

It’s like reliving a bad dream for some Spirit Lake residents, as a young girl has died in a house three blocks from the former home of Shelby Duis, the girl who was beaten to death two years ago.Police say they’ll release more information this afternoon on the death of four-and-a-half-month-old Shania Laird. She died Thursday in the northwest Iowa town of Spirit Lake. Police say the death is “suspicious.” No arrests have been made. An autopsy was performed Friday but the results may not be made public until today. The child’s parents are reportedly 36-year-old Lori Mason and 37-year-old John Laird.
