U-of-I seeks older women for study

May 22, 2002 By admin

University of Iowa researchers are looking for older Iowa women to take part in a wide-ranging health study. A drug is being tested for its potential abilities in preventing osteoporosis, breast cancer and heart disease. The U-of-I College of Public Health is looking for women between the ages of 60 and 80 who already have osteoporosis or a low bone density test result. Study recruiter Kelly O’Berry says participants have to make ten or so trips to a University research lab, either in Des Moines or Iowa City over three-to-five years. O’Berry says women who take part in the study are compensated for their time and travel, and there are other benefits. They -do- receive all test results and will be helping the medical community help women like them and future generations.
