Haluska wins four, Iowa City 10 at state track

May 27, 2002 By admin

Carroll’s Adam Huluska recorded a milestone this weekend at the Boys State Track and Field Championships. He became only the fourth athlete in 97 years to win four individual events at the state track meet. Huluska says he’d been coming to the track meet since he was a kid, but never realized what a great accomplishment winning four events is. Huluska won the long jump, 100, the 200 and the 400, but his favorite race is the 200. He says the 400 is a tough race, but he had his best time of the year.Williamsburg won the Class 2-A title for the first time ever. Coach Greg Stoltz was elated, saying it’s been a big dream. He says the kids really believed they could win the championship, and it’s “a great day.”Williamsburg competitors placed in eight of the 12 events in which they qualified. He says they didn’t figure on winning individual events, and depended on their relays, with some good performances in the individual events. Iowa City City High won its tenth title for Coach John Raffensperger, the most for any coach.
