Flood clean up underway at Jones County Fairgrounds

June 7, 2002 By admin

Jones County Fair officials are still adding up the damages from widespread flooding along the north fork of the Maquoketa River. Fair Manager John Harms says the water inundated several buildings along the north side of the fairgrounds. He says all the agriculture buildings were flooded throughout, though they haven’t gotten inside each one to look at all the damage. Harms says the floodwaters have created a messy situation inside the buildings. He doesn’t know about structural damage, but they’ll need cleaning, and he suspects mud destroyed some things like refrigerator motors. Harms says after the inspection and assessment of damage is all done, fair officials hope to get right to work.
