The Sierra Club is backing two democrats on the ballot in November — U-S Senator Tom Harkin and John Norris, who’s running for Iowa’s Fourth District Congressional seat. Eric Uram of the Sierra Club’s Midwest office says the republicans in those races, Congressmen Greg Ganske and Tom Latham, have not supported environmental causes that’re dear to the Sierra Club. He says they’re looking at air and water and how to keep it from being polluted. The Sierra Club is launching what it calls a voter education campaign which includes buying 12-thousand dollars worth of t-v commercials that attack Latham and Ganske for some specific votes. He says they’re “out to educate the public about what’s going on out there.” He says if Iowans want to see their resources protected, they should call their representatives.About six thousand Iowans are members of the Sierra Club. Members will distribute voter guides and hold rallies for Harkin and Norris, part of the Sierra Club’s enhanced political activity on behalf of candidates.
