Consolation Softball

There were several consolation games today at the Girl’s State Softball Tournament in Fort Dodge. In Class 1A, Audra Hovick fired a two-hit shutout and struck our six as 11th-ranked South Hamilton beat Kee High of Lansing 2-0 in the fifth place game. In the 1A seventh place game, West Marshall shut out 17th-ranked Albert City-Truesdale 3-0. In Class 2A, Brandi Redel struck out six and held 12th-ranked Carlisle to five hits as Red Oak picked up fifth place with a 2-0 win. In the battle of teams with losing records for seventh place, Williamsburg and MOC-Floyd Valley each pounded out 11 hits but Williamsburg scored three times in the bottom of the sixth for a 11-8 win. In Class 3A, Amber Vaughn fired a one-hitter facing one more than the minimum amount of batters as the hometown Fort Dodge Dodgers posted a 2-0 shutout over unranked Urbandale. And seventh-ranked Des Moines East held on for a 2-1 win over Sioux City Heelan in the seventh place game. In the championship round tonight, 12th-ranked Woodbury Central plays unranked Edgewood-Colesburg for the Class 1A title, followed by the Class 3A championship game between top-ranked North Scott and 6th-ranked West Des Moines Dowling. Championship night concludes with the Class 2A title game between 5th-ranked Independence and 10th-ranked Clear Creek-Amana.
